Carolyn Schurr Levin
Carolyn Schurr Levin has been practicing media law in New York for more than 30 years, focusing on First Amendment, media, publishing, and intellectual property law.
Carolyn earned her undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University after a three-year accelerated program, and her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
Carolyn has wide-ranging experience in prepublication legal review of content and editorial risk management, and has taught Media Law & Ethics at City University of New York's Baruch College, Stony Brook University, Long Island University, and Pace University. Before teaching, Carolyn served as the Vice-President and General Counsel of Ziff Davis Media and the Vice-President and General Counsel of Newsday.
Carolyn has been a peer reviewer for journalism and mass communication conference papers and books, and a judge for numerous journalism contests. She has also worked as an editor and reporter for a weekly community newspaper and is a sought-after speaker, commentator, panelist, and trainer on First Amendment issues. Carolyn has been a member of the advisory board of the Fair Media Council, the College Media Association, the Student Press Law Center, and the Society of Professional Journalists, and was the Vice President of Reading Dream.
Carolyn, who joined Reviewed and Cleared in summer 2024, is admitted to the bars of New York, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia.
Carolyn and her husband Sam, a civil engineer, live in New York with their two children.
