Nicole Patterson
Nicole is a highly experienced content lawyer with more than 25 years at the forefront of the media industry. She trained at the bar and undertook a specialist pupillage in licensing and criminal law. After several years’ practice she joined Express Newspapers as a night lawyer, alongside an independent practice legalling books, magazines, podcasts and audio books. Becoming Head of Legal at Express Newspapers in 2011, Nicole lead the in-house legal teams on pre-publication and legal and regulatory matters, including litigation, guiding the business through the Leveson Inquiry and across the takeover of Reach plc.
Since 2019 Nicole has been a full-time independent lawyer providing pre-publication advice to major national newspaper and broadcast groups (News UK, Telegraph Media Group, Guardian News and Media and ITN) as well as advising leading, independent non-fiction publishers.
